      Snowboarding in cold temps question

      Hello,

So far, I have only been snowboarding at Big Bear where it was always pretty warm.

I am going snowboarding where it will be like 30-35 in the day time, do I need anything special besides long johns and uninsulated snowboard pants, a fleece and a shell? I have super warm gloves so my hands should be fine.

Do I need insulated pants? Usually in Big Bear I'd just have uninsulated pants, a tshirt and gloves. Sometimes I'd wear my waterproof shell (no insulation) at the end of the day when it started to cool down.

Oh yeah, I forgot I will be wearing a helmet too. When I was a kid I never did, that was really dumb. One head bang into the ice... done!

So you wear that in like 30s temps? If so, I should be fine with what I have.

Never hurts to have more than less before you get a feel for what your body can handle. I was going to recommend conservative since I used to Snowboard pac NW mountains arnd those temps but thinking it over now I’d freeze my arse off after becoming acclimated to San Diego Wx ...

Actually I'm going to PNW! Mt. Bachelor, I usually don't get cold I'm just trying to decide if I should buy insulated pants or not. I'm gonna have my CamelBak with extra layers (and a beer or two)

It's all about layers bro. I wear a 10k snowboarding jacket and pants. Sweat or thermal pants and long sleeve, thin t shirt and wife beater. Beanie, thermal or snowboarding socks and mittens cuz they're warmer than gloves and I like the freedom my fingers have. If it's real cold I'll put a base layer glove under the mittens.

Alright, that is usually what I do. It is not going to be like 10 below zero or anything, probably 30s so I should be fine. I will just wear lots of layers and keep my backpack so I can add or remove clothing throughout the day.

      IM SO AMPED

You’ll be just fine with the stuff you mentioned . Just got back from Washington where it was around 17° and wore same stuff that you mentioned and I was fine .

beer is good but flask of whisky/rum/fireball/... is better. great way to stay warm. from the inside out. plus at the food court, you can just order a soda and add your own alcohol to it. win win

I'd never leave the lodge myself. I hate cold and one avalanche can ruin your whole day. The liquor was the best tip so far
