      Re-Drilling an existing hole

So wondering if any of you have successfully done or have experience in drilling over an existing hole to make it bigger. My project tank is a 30 gallon glass cube. Currently has a 1” bulkhead installed. Wanted to see if it is possible to drill over that existing hole to fit a 1.5” bulkhead. I want to run an Eshopps Eclipse overflow and they require a hole for an 1.5” bulkhead. If not I’m gonna have to try and build my own with the existing hole and limit my herbie drain to 3/4” which is sufficient but I’d like to just plug and play if I could.

I don't see why you couldn't, just make sure you have the right bit and go slow.

I would think it wouldn’t be any different right? Hopefully somebody on here has done it. I didn’t drill my tank myself though LarryM drilled it years and years ago for me. I’d have to have someone who knows what they are doing drill it.

Get a piece of plywood and cut the bigger size template and clamp it down to the glass to prevent the hole saw from moving all over.

Cool well it sounds like it can be done. Anyone in north county available to do the drilling? I live in Fallbrook so anywhere fairly close. I’m good with building stuff and tinkering with things but I don’t wanna drill. Last test tank I practiced drilling on didn’t fair too well.

I can drill it. Located in Escondido. $75 if I have to come to you, $25 if you bring it to me.

That sounds pretty good to me. Hopefully I will be ready to drill by the middle to end of March. Waiting on getting my living room situated before I build my new stand and have the permanent spot picked out. Can’t wait to get back into the hobby. Been a long long time.
