Metal Halide or Metal Halide combo???

Hey reefers! Does anyone on here still run metal halide or metal halide combos? If so can you please discuss the setup you are running? I’m running a Reef Breeder Photon and I don’t like the color and the intensity on the fixture. I have always liked the look of 14 K phoenix bulbs on metal halides and I’m thinking of going back. What are good fixtures out there?

      Please let me know.
      Thanks
      Michael

I run a 20K radium on my frag tank. The tank is only lit at night but, it I love the color and acros seem to respond well to halides.

What fixture are you running? 400w? Are you running a electronic or magnetic ballast?

      Thanks in advance!

I'm running a Hamilton fixture with a 250w SE bulb. I have a DE fixture to but I hate how difficult it is to change the bulb in those. It's on an electric ballast that is made for over-driving the Radium. Your welcome to come by and check it out. I could adjust it the time so it's on if you do.

I might take you up on that offer. Looks like you are in Escondido according to your location up in the corner. I will be in Escondido probably Thursday and Friday this week. Maybe I can swing by after work.

Btw do you still have that Eibli tang you got from me a while back?

Anyone else runs metal halides with T5? I just pick up a fixture running 250w DE with 4 x 24w T5. I am running a new Phenix bulb and needing to replace the T5 bulbs. I’m not sure what combination of bulbs to run. I want the tank to be more on the blue side. I am thinking 2 blue plus, a purple plus, and a pure actinic. Or I can run 2 blue plus and 2 pure actinic. I will most likely go with the Giesemann brand. I’m not sure how that will look like.

Please chime in and let me know your experience.

      Thanks in advance!

Giesemann is high quality and great but expensive. Reefrf (Ron) has one I'm sure he will let you go and look. I am running an old AquaSpace light with 3 DE 250 W Phoenix bulbs. I strapped on 2 Reefbrite XHO Blue. Looks good. Come take a look.

Hey Tapio, are you able to see the leds when the halides are on or do the halides overpower them?

The Reefbrites are very powerful. I can definitely see them on and off while the MH are on. The XHO mimic the old school URL VHO Super Actinic T12 bulb. Hence the name XHO.
