      Either way, I dont think its relevant here since the OP said they tested water everyday and didnt see any ammonia.

      I agree, but if he had live rock that was already established, he wouldn’t need to worry about a cycle with Scripps water. I have been reef keeping for almost 7 years now and I have always used Scripps water to start a tank, and had little to no cycle time

      I was able to get more air in the system - I think that was the problem. So far so good. Thanks for all your help! This forum did help me figure it out!

      Sometimes a boom in bacteria can suffocate the fish. Typically big fish go first. Just because the water is not milky does not mean it does not have enough oxygen glad you figured it out
