So after considering my potential fish list, I was advised that my rock work was not conducive to the habits of tangs. I reworked the rock islands and allowed for some swim throughs and hiding spots. I think this looks better and also allowed me to add more rock for filtration benefits.
I ended up with a total of 190 lbs of rock and 180 lbs of sand. I still have a 20 lb of live sand which I’m trying to decide wether to add or not.
I’m almost done with the control panel area. I need to add a small shelf on the right side for my dosing pumps. I put in a door activated led strip which lights the bottom area very well. It turns off 30 seconds after closing the doors.
The sump is still one of my favorite spots. I like the clean look of it. I had some sediment settle on the bottom when I added a bag of live sand but I’ll vacuum that out in a bit. I’m going to go with an exterior ATO container. The stock one (7.5 gallons) only lasts about 2 days.
I went with these sump cups instead of socks. I cut some foam to snugly fit in each one and will hose them down when needed. No more socks to wash (hopefully).
I’m looking to pick up one of those clear lids with the netting. I always have the luck of carpet surfers. I don’t understand how other people say they go years without any.
