      Sick sun coral

Sup SDReefs, I have a sun coral that I was about to trade with a friend, but now he seems to be not doing well, looks like it started to "dry" ... i'll place it in iodine, feeding him and use Melafix to try to recover him..parameters are good, not sure what's going on, is it okay with what I'm gonna do? (Place him in Melafix and Iodine

      Thanks!

What do you feed your sun coral?

don't repeatedly dip it if there is no sign of infection or fungus. all of those act as a type of astringent. and like our skin will become irritated by it if over used. imo your best off moving it to better flow and spot feeding it. it should be open all the time. the less it eats the less its open.

Suncorals being "black corals" (non-photosynthetic) need feedings almost daily (or more)...I think that's why Kris is asking.

I feed mine sometime a couple times a day at different times if the polyps are out. Here's a pic I took last night for example when I saw this post

(Side note: Where's Waldo? Can you find the eye looking at me)

So in the photo obviously most of the polyps are out but I had to nurse/train the corals to come out more frequently. If they aren't trained before hand you have to coax them slowly to come out by "feeding" them a couple times during the day. I say "feeding" cause it's really just spraying some frozen food broth over them in hopes it will entice them to start having their polyps it more with time.

Hopefully that helps, I know I've had various "black corals" over the years and if this wasn't done regularly they slowly recede and die off.
