      Id please

So this showed up about a month ago on a piece of base live rock that has been in the tank for 10 years. Nothing new added to the tank in months. What is it? Looks to be growing a tube at the bottom. Never retracts. Just keeps getting longer.

I would put a siphon around the body and razor under the foot then it will suck the whole thing out and any loose pieces

I've had these "appear" on Caribbean live rock and they would flourish for a month or two and then die off. They came back in the fall for two or three years and then they die off and did not return? I've had another rock that sprouted caulerpa in the same fashion, one day it just showed up, heck yes I got excited! I removed the strand and it was good for a long time and then one day I found another strand starting to go from the same rock.

I pulled the rock, but in both cases I've wondered how long these weeds can remain dormant, and what (besides nutrients) signaled the plant to sprout? Neither of those instances caused the tank to become overrun with algae. gl.

Thanks for the posts guys. I was surprised when it showed up. Odd after so long. Interesting though and just more reef fun. Lol
