Yeah they've come down in price over the past month or two. Now that they are being collected off Madagascar rather than just mauritus

I enjoy mine. Pretty good temperament for a zebrasoma.

Also, they were never "rare". Just not seen in hobby often. Only one family had permission from South African government to collect them, so essentially they could ask a high price.
Now Barnett from RVS fishworld has collectors in Madagascar collecting them and shipping over to Manila, PI where he has his substation and can then ship all over the world. Barnett has dozens coming in weekly now flooding the market, lowering the price on these eureka tive beauties

That's interesting, so it was a legal issue. Were they protected in Madagascar before this or something?

Tangs are pretty hard to breed right? Like, barely ever done before I thought.

No more of a location thing. The area they were originally collected from, as was mentioned above, only allowed a very select number to get out and as the location is relatively remote transportation costs alone attributed mostly to the high price they were fetching. I believe if I remember correctly, only 1 airline even flew to the island they were collected from and those ticket prices were very high. Thus just getting them out of their original location ran a 4 digit tab.

      Yes and yes.

As stated it was legal for one family to get them and sell from mauritus. Anyone could collect them using a permit, but the sale was another issue. They are quite abunpndant there so it wasn't a matter of numbers. Now that a new collecting station was opened in Madagascar many fish are now being collected there since it's close to mauritus and other African collection sites.

I've had mine for a few years now back from the mauritus collection site. I love mine. He is fairly docile as far as zebrasomas go
