Thumbs up Who says Water Filtration has to be ugly?

Industrial Design is all about S...E...X...Y...!!!
its still a work-in-process but coming along rather nicely.

anyone know where I can find a BLACK-colored RO membrane housing?

That's cool, it is like the Apple of reverse osmosis systems. It can actually be left out in the open instead of stuffed in the garage or under the sink.

Then it will look cool, like science!

Maybe that's why he's looking for black housing

actually i was hoping to find just the membrane housing in black to match the black-and-clear design characteristics. already have fittings, water line, and ASOV valve all in black. The filter canisters should indeed stay clear for visual reference of the pre-filters.
Thanks for the Apple analogy, that is kinda their typical design style. Perhaps if Steve Jobs had drank RO/DI water all the time....hmmm

Ok, I finally finished my first prototype.
Fully water tested for leaks and operational capability

      Open Stats are as follows:
      - 5-stage, 100 gpd Reverse Osmosis and Deionization water filtration system
      - 1/2" acrylic upper and lower deck with 1" acrylic support rods.
      - Upper mount 100 gpd RO membrane with acrylic protection shroud
      - "Hidden Plumbing" hose routing and fittings (rear-mounted ASOV valve)
      - Rolling casters and dual lift handles for mobility
      - Stainless Steel hardware and John Guest plastic fittings (with C-clips)
      - All parts brand new, including pre-filters, RO membrane, and DI resin

Separation of deck (for filter changes and/or maintenance) requires removal of only 4 screws!

      The Bad News?
Cost of Time and Materials would make this a $500 R/O system, Not exactly economically feasible, but then again I didn't build this for the purpose of selling it.....think of it as more of a "proof of concept" project. I suppose I could build these on special order for anyone wanting a premium water system that is somehow visible or on display.

You could have it made in china, but then a month later you would see the market flooded with your product for cheaper than your wholesale cost.

Four simple screws completely release the lower carriage from the rest of the system. Then use a filter wrench as normal. (yes, there is enough gap)
I pre-drilled and TAPPED both ends of those support rods to accept the mounting screws....something nearly impossible to do without a good drill press, squaring vise, and tap set.

Also notice in the final version that I elected to move the handles to the outboard...for two reasons: 1) to make way for a top mounted RO membrane (was considering side saddle or even UNDER the lower deck with larger wheels) and 2) so that handle removal is not necessary to release the lower carriage (just the four screws). Industrial design does take ergonomics and ease of maintenance into consideration too : )
Oh, that being said, I made sure this system could be laid on its side during maintenance too (an important point)

Actually, I specified the recycled six-pack-ring plastic that is harvested from dead bottle-nose dolphins.

It doesn't look like there is enough of a gap below the canisters to unscrew them or even fit the wrench in.
