      When LE corals morph..?

What is the hobby etiquette in trading and selling for when expensive/rare corals morph due to differing lighting/tank conditions? Is it ok to trade the coral under it's original name?

I have a few corals that have been changing color since I switched from T5 to LED and I don't want people to get mad if I trade or sell a frag. Two most notably are a rainbow acan lord and the ASD Leprechaun. I'd like to do some trading, but I don't want people to be disappointment that my frags look different than other photos.

What do you guys do in that situation?

when I played with named/lineaged stuff, my rule was to never buy or sell without a current photo. Covers morphs, size changes, growth pattern changes, etc- doesn't really matter.

Some folks show only photos of lineaged-known lighting (so a pic by ASD as example) and then say their specimen is of a different look because of lighting and what not. I don't like this approach and have not bought from those who do so.

My preference is to show photo of current state, explain lineage and differences (if known, and cover what I do know and know I don't know) of the environments of the respective photos and offer a photo of the original conditions upon request. Makes me more comfortable selling something expensive simply laying out the truths as I know them. From there it's up to the sellers and buyers relative reputations of trustworthiness and all that.

The potential price is a big factor though- if it was $20/pp zoa's or some such I'm not going to sweat the details as much. When it was a bowser at $500~$750 pp, much more thoroughness was taken.

I've dealt with this a fair amount...I had some Utter Chaos before they blew up years ago... The colony did great in my main tank and as I re-aquascaped over the years the next thing I knew there were Utter Chaos zoas everywhere but because they were in different areas of the system they morphed quite a bit depending where they were. I still have a good amount of them but I only charge 5-10pp where as I charge around 15 for the CB Utters

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, the Utters (hehe) changed in my tank too. I can tell which polyps sprouted under the T5s and which did under the LEDs.

Acans are known to morph under leds. That's why its not a good idea to pay big bucks for acans in led tanks
But I see people on R2R and RC state that it is the "real deal ... But has changed in my tank". They still sell given the before pics as well usually

I see that too. It seems for a rainbow acan to stay 'rainbow' people are keeping them under very blue light. Like, unrealistically blue light.
