      Protein Skimmer Help

I am in the process of building a new tank (90 gallon) and I wanted to know the real difference between ASM and Euro-reef. They basically look the same but the Euro-reef is way more expensive. Does anyone have things to say about either of the two brands? Thanks

I've heard that they both are pratically the same, but with the Euro-Reef using higher quality acrylics, and thus the higher prices.

yup. Euro's use a higher grade acrylic.. other than that, they are pretty much identical in performance.

So it would pretty much be pointless to get the euro-reef over the ASM then?

Well, not so much pointless as just more expensive. some people like having 'top of the line' and the clearer acrylic is appealing to some. But I say, if you want a true "top of the line" get a deltec. If you want performace vs cost, get an ASM.

the asm has a better chance of breaking because of the brittle acrylic. If you skimmer will be somewhere that it might get knocked around or over you may want to go with the EuroReef. I have an ASM I got from Mike and am very happy with it. No dogs or kids running around here

I just bought an ASM Mini-G and that little thing kicks major ass, on the 2nd day, it skimmed off almost half cup full of dark stinky skimate. Everyones right about the quality of the acrylic, it's preety bad. But once I get some more funds, I'm definately getting a deltec.
