Jega I wonder if a big factor in yours is the shrimp blowing into the corals. Right now I slowly feed pellets to the fish and they eat about 100% of them. I have a good CUC, I guess they just eat fish poop. I also have a healthy population of pods and mysis, but I don't really add food to the water column that just blows around for the corals to eat...

My tank is pretty low tech also, I really wanted to try emphasize biological filtration. So now I have no mechanical filtration at all, no skimmer, no sponges, filters, nothing, and the water is crystal clear, nitrate and phosphate at 0ppm, and sandbed is clean. I have live sponges all over and worms and all kinds of little bugs that live in the sand and rocks.

I think when I feed I will start blasting some finely mashed pellet dust into the water so the corals can eat it, or as suggested earlier that gonipower and I am going to look at phytoplankton.

Dude, what is going on in that tank?? I only see remnants of life, with the exception of large amounts of chaeto in the corners.

Have no fear, this is deliberate. It is a post-apocalyptic biotope meant to show the Earth's oceans after the evil human parasites destroyed them with sunscreen, pollution and climate change.

Actually my red grape algae has been disappearing one grape at a time for unknown reasons (I think my Cheeto balls were too big) and the glass is filthy. It really looks better when it's cleaned up a bit.

Someone has to do it. I dose a little sunscreen and coca-cola in there every week, and toothpaste (microbeads)

You definitely need the microbeads, otherwise the texture would be all wrong.

Here are some pictures after I cleaned the glass and let the water clear up a little bit. Good news, my goni looks more open than it has been for a few weeks. Also, all of the other corals have been growing noticeably during this time, so the goni is the only one having trouble.

      Goni

      Clown goby

      Favia

Echinata, and in the background a Hollywood Stunner and some neon green palys
