Install them in your sump. The only advantage would be, you don't have to look at probes in your display. Same reason you don't put your heater in your display if you have a sump.
Yeah I'd lean toward sump placement as well but that begs the question of where in the sump... If you place the temp sensor right next to your heaters... I actually have my temp probe up in the main by the overflow kinda hidden away. I don't know if the sump is gonna be a couple degrees off or not but my rational being the display is the area of the system I truly want to know the temp of right?!? PH and other probes probably wouldn't need that type of placement -though place them before the dosing lines in flow pattern
When I had the Apex set up, probe placement was tricky in the sump. It was a 3 chamber sump, drain/skimmer section/return. I couldn't put the probes in either of the first 2 chambers due to micro bubbles from the drain and skimmer. The tiny bubbles would get trapped in the probes and give a false reading. It would only really happen after restarting the return and skimmer after a wc. I had the probes in compartment 2 for a while, I had them at a slight angle and would have to lightly tap the sides to knock any bubbles trapped inside the probe tube.
I ended up moving the probes over to the return section and bubble issue went away. From what I read and experienced, micro bubbles in the probes are no bueno
