      Q:Auto Water change

Hey guys I don't know if this is already or not I did look around didn't find what I was looking for so here's my question

Is it possible to have automatic water change like use two aqua lift air pumps one one on each end of the tank both going at the same rate so water level stays the same and so your auto top off doesn't get confused and start filling the tank with fresh water and add like rubber band or something to the end of the air pump to slow in and out so that by the end of a week there was a 10% water

Or would it simply not work?

Invest in an apex and you will have no issues trying to do what you are talking about

I setup the auto water change with the apex dos unit Be aware that its very loud. I had it change the water after 12 so it wouodnt bother me. I ran thatbsetup for 6 months and then ended up using the unit for something else. IMHO it wasnt worth it my tank seems to appreciate the bigger water changes.

What do you mean? Was the auto wc making no noticeable difference?

I have the Genesis Renew on my 300 gallon system for auto water change. It has worked flawlessly for more than 2 years.

Wow the Genesis Renew is amazing do you use it with the storm auto top off since they work together and will disable the top off when changing your water?

Do you have the changed water drain directly into like a drain or into like a bucket?

Also is it possible to have it change the water constantly but slowly while still keeping nitrate down?

Also is the Genesis Renew noisy?

I don't use storm for auto top off. That is done with apex and aqua lifter. Apex will halt auto topoff during water change.

No, it's not noisy at all. The dirty water is emptied into a 55 gallon drum. The change can be spread out over a day, a week, or continuous. Even in continuous mode, you can tell the Renew system to do it one gallon after another or pause in between to allow water parameters to stabilize.

The biggest problem with doing a continuous water change system with two like pumps is that they will not pump water at the same rate. I don't care what they say on the package, they will all deviate from each other. That is why something like the Apex or another controller is your best bet. The Renew system is ideal because that is exactly what it was designed for, but they are expensive. Dropping that much money on a controller is a better investment because of all of the other things it deos besides just water changing. Whatever method is used, you need to be 100% certain that the same amount of water goes in that goes out. Otherwise your salinity will eventually get thrown off.

The faster you run the motors on the dos the louder they are. I was changing 3 gallons a day. It was convenient but I noticed that the corals would respond better with the larger water changes . I would change the water only at night because of the noise.
