      Rob619 upgrade to a 100 gallon

So i picked up this 100 gallon from Vance this week.. Super score of a deal! Now i have to just get it cleaned and then plumbed.. It looks like they used flex hose and just zip tied it to the pvc barb.. not sure how secure that is? Any suggestions on that? Should i take it off and glue pvc in?

Anyways here is some pics to get the thread started!

The sump has the attachment for a hose, i assume that would be for a quick water change? Never used one like this before so thoughts? Do i need to worry about it ever leaking? Should i just plug it up?

I've used the flex with a clamp and it was fine no issues but I would say slightly a gamble. If you have the means I would hard plumb it.

As we all know, anything & everything can leak and at the worst time but that hose bib is a rubber seal against a brass body that is good for more that 100PSI. It's also threaded so it's easily replaceable. I'm using hose on barbs for drain & return with no problems.

Many people use a tight flex hose heated in water and slipped on while hot, then zip, if that's what's been done you are fine, but you could always add a vinyl hose clamps instead or also for added assurance.
I don't like brass fittings if that's what that is, has copper.
      Nice score!

awesome, i shall run to AW tomorrow and grab new hoses and clamps... I should add a check valve since the sump is about a 30 gallon it looks like. I think i should be fine as long as the returns are close to the surface... Been a minute since i plumbed a tank and am not as nimble as i used to be.. Getting on the floor about killed the old knee

Most of us skip the check valves, they always end up failing in on position anyway.
W/ locks up high for early siphon break I'm sure there's enough room, if you baffle it for right height, which I don't see any baffles from that pic, w/out them you can't maintain a safe level and you will probably have micro bubble issues, so might want to add those.

I would prob just upgrade the sump after the skimmer and the return pump you will have little room in that thing

Maybe a 40b sump or something

I agree, maybe get er going but I'd grab a 40b at petcos next dollar sale or used and glass it up, I have some glass sitting in my garage that will probably help you when ready

I think for now i am going to stick with the sump that it came with.. The stand is open enough to where i can swap it out later if i need to.. I got the flex hose off that was cut from the bulk heads.. holy hell those hoses were on those barbs good.. I had to break out the dremel and slice the hose to get them off. I guess that answered my question about them being safe.. lol Hoping to have water in it this weekend and run vinegar through it to get this process jump started.

And Vance this was def a score man, thank you again! It even had a heater in the sump too lol

tank is cleaned and drained of the fresh water.. Everything is ready to go! Just need to pick up some more sand and then figure out the water situation.

Depending on dims of stand, a 40b might not work. You'll prolly be fine with daily top offs by hand till you get an ato going. Definitly a jobs for the kids! Vinyl tube, hose barb, HD metal clamp = leak proof for me. That's how I always run my return plumbing.

Nice come up for sure! Vance always has good stuff. That's why I stay away from his place. I can't fight the temptation!
