      Finally making the switch

I've finally decided that it was time to make the switch from FW to SW things have been hard getting started bought a tank some dry rock got a wave maker coming in the mail tomorrow I know a bigger tank is better but I think my family would kill me if I tore down the 120g downstairs to turn it into a SW tank so I got myself 15g I don't know any reefers in the la Mesa area I can go and buy a cup of sand from their established tank to help cycle mine faster if anyone could help that would be awesome

Welcome to the dark side! FWIW IMO IME Live rock live sand scripps water, the tank is cycling. Not at great strength but it is. Adding established sand wont speed the process it just adds bacterial diversity, but also possible contagions if your worried about that stuff.
Did you start all dry? Thats different.

Yeah I started all dry i know it'll take longer so anything to help speed it up definitely don't want to end up waiting a full year

A year! Never happen. I did mine dry in a bucket w tank water "fiji Mud" and scripps. Took three weeks. Dt T method will do it almost instantly,Red Sea Bio booster is recommended by a few . Again weak but cycling.
Im on college El cajon Ive got a few rocks n sand from the new tank. Its only been in light for only a week so its ugly. Pm if you want some Ill only be home today for a few hours today and then tomorrow night after work.

I have to say scripps water is key IMO. I read a lot of forums. If you mix salt in a bucket and drop a fish in, it gets sick or unstable. If you put it in scripps its fine. You still have ammoina build up with no filter but...

      HAHAHA Funny cuz its true.
Chris and Megan both great people I shop there a lot too, it down the street. They have some pretty new rock in so its not yet cooked up yet IMO to do what you want worth a shot though. Totally cool folks though. Chris at Vets Pets is an awesome dude and a veteran reefer too. He pays super close attention as to what is in his rock bin, I always send folks there. I only have five coral hitchikers that came from live rock from his place.
