      I rarely adjust the effluent. I’m under the philosophy of a steady stream so it never clogs. I only adjust the bubble rate to get the correct ph for melt/saturation level.

      One of the things I attribute my success to is the constant & consistent testing of water parameters. I monitor alkalinity levels very closely & often. Depending on where it’s at I test every 3-7 days. I do monthly water changes, on my previous reef I did water changes every two weeks and have not seen any negative effects with the less frequency.

      I use reef crystals salt by Instant Ocean. I’ve never used any other brand. Ro/di of course. I sporadically use Benepets reef nutrition. The only other product I dose is Reef Solution by Eco-systems.

      Calcium reactor deploys all of my calcium & alkalinity needs. Lots of fish in my 250 too, 38 total in my system. Feeding 1-3 times per day.
      Hope this helps.

      Water parameters-
      Alkalinity =8-9dkh
      Ph=7.9-8.2
      Magnesium =1350-1450
      Nitrate=2-5
      Phosphate=above zero & under .08
      Calcium =420-470

      I am curious about the alk. Do you try and keep it at, say 8.5? Or, as long as it falls in the 8 to 9 range it's ok. I ask, because I am never sure what "stable" mean. I shoot for 8.3, but on occasion it will drop to 7.5. Should I be concerned about a drop like that? According to your range and your awesome tank, no.

      Thank you by the way! 😊
      I focus on a consistent range. Like you mentioned, 8-9 dkh is my target. If you can keep your Alk consistent within a point you should be good as long as it doesn’t have big swings too quickly. You don’t want it fluctuating too fast within that target range. If it jumps a full point in one week, that’s generally okay but in a couple of days, that will become a problem.
      To your question, your alkalinity dropped from 8.3 to 7.5. Over how many days did it take to drop that far? That’s most important. That’s why you need to test weekly IMO. I hope that helps.

      That drop occured "gradually" over about 36 to 48 hours due to doser having stopped and I didn't realize that. In cases like this, where my tank was accustomed to 8.3 (pretty spot on every week), would it make sense to try and bring it back to 8.3 quickly (since it was used to that) or still slowly bring it back up to 8.3? On similar note, I recently picked up an acro from a scripps system that had alk at 4.6 ( I tested their water twice). It's been one of the fastest encrusting sps I have ever put in my system and the polyp extension is great. I acclimated it to my system over about 2 hours. Our systems were very similar in that we both use Scripps and Radion Gen2. Maybe this isn't the best thread to ask, but since you did ask. And this topic confuses me.

      Hi! Always best to do it slowly when dealing with alkalinity or any other parameter for that matter. 😊

      Beautiful!!

      What a beautiful tank!! I really enjoyed going through the thread. I am looking into different tank manufacturers and came across your build.

      I inquired about a quote from Crystal Dynamics for a 350 g Peninsula tank .

      What a treat to see such a nicely set up and thriving tank.

      Wondering about that amazing pink and brown spotted fish in the pic looks kinda like an anthias.

      What is the name of that? i'm sure not cheap but I would love to know what it is and how to get one in the futire.

      Thanks so much for all of the info and pics.

      Thank you very much! That fish you’re asking about is a Borbonius Anthias. He’s been a great addition. My only disappointment is that mine loss much of the pink. Otherwise he or she is great!!
