      clamping hose to return pump

I have a 1" nylon hose connected to my return pump. The nozzle of the pump appears to be the same size but with smaller ribs. So it fits a little lose and with the presume of the return pump it its not going to hold on forever.

I was thinking of using an automotive radiator hose clamp(stainless). I know you can't put brass in your water but I wanted to check if this was ok. Or if you know of an alternative that would be great! Thanks

Snapper Hose Clamps, best bet and won't corrode
120 gallon. I throw money at it, and it grows colorful sticks.

Go to Aquatic Warehouse and purchase the plastic clamps and are reef safe.

Ok thanks guys. That's where I got all the rest of the plumbing. I've got another question about the drain.

I've got a HOB with a overflow. I was going to make a pair of stand pipes to queit it down. Here's a photo of how it is now.

One side is taller than the other. I guess in case one gets plugged up

      So should I
1 make the both the same size so it drains faster and I can turn up my pump.
2 leave one as an emergency backup

And either way, if I make them taller, would it creates a stronger syphon and drain faster?

Might be hard to fit a durso but you should be be able to put on a "maggie".

I was going to do a dorso. It will fit if I have the 90* pipe in the filter chamber. But I was only planning on doing the for noise. Does it make the tank drain faster? My pump is rated at 750gph. It's a 55 gal tank. I was trying to a count for more head loss that it has so I have a ball valve on the return turned about 45*. From what I understand more turnover it better. That and I don't want to have undue pressure in the return line and making the pump work harder and use more power.

And thank you octo. I've been on his site before. Lots of good info.

The height difference (alone) will not noticeably increase the siphon suction, but changes (+/-) in the intake restriction can improve or reduce siphon formation, and flow.

A screen on the back-up pipe might improve "overflow insurance" value?
