      Cleaning old rock

I pulled all the Xenia covered rock out of my tank, it's been sitting in a bucket in the garage for a few months now. It is completely dry but stinky.

How do I clean it to use again? I've seen some soak in vinegar and some use bleach. What's the quickest and best way to clean so it can be used again?

      Cleaning old rock

I've done muriatic acid with great results it takes the top layer off of the rock which is usually has all the dead organic matter and phosphates attached to it. It is a messy process though. But worth it.

Want to add that you will still need to cycle the rock regardless

or be lazy. Soak in ro di. Scrub with brush, Rinse in tap(hose), soak in salt(or old tank water) w powerhead to cure cycle, put in fuge/sump. Use.
Depending on the stink the first week of the salt soak do a water change.

you can use a little bleach in the ro soak, drops or a cap full but it'll take longer to cure and cycle and you should let it air dry or use an airstone in the salt soak.

      both methods work.

Oh forgot about having to cure it again, lol. Looks like I most likely will not be needing it so I'll probably put it up for trade soon.
