Advice on re-painting a wood fish stand. need help, experts chime in please

hi everyone..I'll be upgrading my tank. Yay!!

I am picking it up tomorrow...the stand has an oak finish though. I am planning to change the color to a darker brown, like expresso dark brown or black.

Should I paint/brush/spray/use a roller??? What kind of paint?

      What do you guys say?

      Recommendations would be great.

      Thanks

Commercial painter here... For refinishing a wooden stand I would just sand everything down with super fine sand paper( make sure you sand with the grain). Spraying the stand would definitely be the best, but this is all
Due to aesthetics. With brush and roll you will deal with brush marks and roller stipple. As to go with the paint, almost any kind of acrylic paint will do. Sherwin Williams sells a paint called resilience that works well for water moisture( we use it at Seaworld and really any business close to the coast for exterior). It's a good paint but honestly it's over kill. I would fine a good acrylic semi gloss paint and spray it.

I would sand it then stain it with a brush with the grain wipe off any excess with a nice cloth do how ever many coats you want to get desired darkness and then do a few coats of polyurethane clear coat to protect it works really good. Good luck have fun feel free to ask questions I've done a number of stands an furniture making over the years

Great feedback from all. Thank you, I appreciate it. I send some pms with more detailed questions to u guys. I'm debating if I stain or spray paint now. Here's a pic of the stand

I'll be fixing this too, there's a chip on the corner that holds one of the doors.

Planning to do today so shall be fun

Definatly sand and stain. That's a easy one to sand it's all flat just use a random orbital sander with like 120 grit
