My tanks in my living room. Upgrade is the plan for me. I'll be moving to a house this coming May and will have more than enough space in the house for a 7-8'x5' or bigger tank to house my adult sharks once they grow to that size. If you get a shark and don't plan to upgrade once it outgrows your tank reach out on the forum for someone that may want it or your local LFS. But you should always buy a shark knowing how big it will get and planning to keep it through its cycle of life.
