Pretty sure it's against the law dude. Do you have a fishing license. According to fish and game (go to their website) they claime to have the right to protect count and control all the wild life including the ocean. By liscenceing hunting and fishing they can control how many and what kind of species are in a natural habitat and monitor the ecosystem. You may want to check the website and see where snails fall under liscenceing. And how many can be pulled from the wild.

Anything living in San Diego ocean waters will not survive long term in reef aquarium temperatures. A good example was the sale of Garibaldi to to reefers a few years back. Sure they kick around for some time but not very happy and they will eventually die, likely an unpleasant death. Please get your clean up crews from places offering TROPICAL invertebrates. They are not exactly that expensive.

Were they just wild caught then sold? Or caught established legally then sold?
I know they sold some at max few years back I believe cutterx23 bought one.

I am not sure about the legality of the Garibaldi that were sold, but I can't imagine their trade being legal. It is the California State fish and they are protected in California coastal waters although quite common especially around Catalina.

I was wondering about that. I would never, ever touch a garibaldi. You can get in serious trouble for that in the ocean anyway. I did not think they were legal to have at home. Maybe someone caught some outside of california and bred them so they were legal, I don't know if that makes them legal. I know you cannot pick california poppies outside but you can plant them in your yard, and then pick them.

looks like you can buy garibaldi here http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...21&pcatid=1421 caught in mexico

You can sell them if you obtain the proper licensing. As I said they were sold. 2 years back at max
