      SUMPgrade ! Display Fuge

Only my second sump build, much nicer than the first.
      30 gallon tall tank. Refugeum area is 22in w x 14(adjustable water level) x 12. minus the pump chamber(5x9)

Seems the pods, bristle worms and mysis shrimp made the trip to the new fuge.
And the Korean store oysters are certainly happy.

Are those baffles acrylic? What did you use to attach them?

They are acrylic. Dabs of silicone adhessive and reef safe silicone sealant.

I've been looking at doing one but having a hard time deciding what to use to attach the acrylic to glass. Lot of people say the silicone doesn't work well on acrylic.

There are more advanced techniques yes. Last one worked fine. The adhesive is key. Not just calk. Kalk to seal, adhesive to glue. I used dabs of adhesive just in case i blew it and had to move it. I would dis agree with the blanket statement it doesnt work well on acrylic as many are made and marked to use an acrylic. You can go to 3m and other manufacturers and easily research calks and adhesives for specific applications. Most research ive done reccomends what you can find at home depot.
      check out melvs reefs sumps.
a hint clean or wipenthe glass and acrylic with alcohol . I bet thats what many people do wrong.

For low flow/strength applications acrylic is fine to use in a glass sump. Just make sure you have 1/8" of a gap in between the baffle and the glass. Acrylic can swell overtime. Without the gap, acrylic may swell and crack glass. Check reef central. It DOES happen. A small sump like this, acrylic is fine. And to the OP: looks great! Job well done. i really like the adjustable baffle.

I use rtv 108/103 to build sumps. Pretty much the best stuff out there. It's also what leemar used to make their tanks. It's a silicone/adhesive. Not available at HD/lowes. But can be found at Grainger.

Interesting about the gap and swelling. As a research a holic i never read anything about that. Ill def look it up.
i have one join in the skimmer chamber thats tighter than id like.
