New reefkeeper in North County! How do I join the club?

Hello all!!!

My name is Whiskey, about 8 years ago I was heavily into my 180G SPS tank. I lived in Phoenix AZ, and was a member of the Prop and Frag clubs. My job dried up, and didn't think there was allot of future in that line of work, so I came out here for some education and some opportunities in another career.

Now, 8 years later I'm still going to school, but life is once again stable so I started up a 75G reef tank. It will be primarily SPS and Clams with a few LPS for a little motion on the bottom. The system is simple, Apex controller, 29G sump, bubble mag skimmer, 75G display with a Tek T5 retro using new ATI bulbs and Tunze for flow.

The clubs in AZ were so much fun, and I was hoping that that I would find something like them out here! Do you guys meet up and do coral auctions and such? How do I join in? I'm going to need lots of frags

Welcome! We do have meetings and they are a ton of fun! Keep watch on the site and I am sure they will announce the next one soon.

Louis up at Reefers Garage in San Marcos was talking about doing a North County group. Not sure if that got any traction.

Welcome! San Diego is a good spot for reefing. Don't be a stranger and definitely keep an eye out on the site for announcements regarding meetings and get togethers. We have a lot that we are working on for the near and distant future. Last year we had Mark Levinson and Mark Callahan come out and speak to the club and we do events at the local fish stores as well. Thanks for stopping in and like I said, don't be a stranger.

Awesome! Stoked to have an SPS guy in Escondido. I live up in valley center, but work in Escondido. I'm always down to trade some frags or whatever.

Frag trading! I would LOVE to do some frag trading For now it will have to wait though,.. for now my tank is a little bare. (Those numbers are par readings)

Colors need some work,.. but they will color up fine once they are in the display tank.

I thought for a bit that might be asking allot,.. but I was able to find one!!! This is not the best picture ever, but you'll get the idea. About a year after this I ended up loosing all the SPS in a one day power outage in the middle of summer while I was on vacation. Someone hit the transformer for our apartment complex and they took a while to get it replaced.

Wow what a shame... That is one pristine tank. I can't imagine coming home to a crashed tank. Thanks for the pic though, tank was stunning.
