Ok I'm thinking about mixing my own salt water in your mind what is the best Salt on the market .open to all input .
I'm thinking about switching to Red Sea. I've been using scripps, but it's a pain because la jolla is far for me. I've heard good things about it.

I used scripps at first for years than switched to Red Sea salt kinda makes your Sunday water changes fun for u have to work at your reef tank while it mixes u have time to clean other thing
I use HWmarinemix reefer salt. Synthetic salt, German made, mix well and fast, no residue. Con: expensive. I got online whenever there is a sale.
Does Red Sea dissolve quickly?

I used red sea before using hw. For me, it take longer to get it clear, residue in my mix container. It is not cheap either.
Red Sea Pro used for years it the best salt imo
Im now a Scripps reefer & only use RSP if its raining or if im lazy.
I haven't tried red sea I use Tropic Marin Pro Reef on a good day 75$ for 5 gal jug I love it dissolves fast but research salts trace element's based on your tank I have mainly softies, zoas and some lps(mainly zoas). All happy and healthy
I have used reef crystals, Aquavitro salinity, red sea coral pro, tropic marin pro reef, and even scripps. My favorite by far is tropic marin pro reef and always end up switching back to it. I recently stared using tropic marin bio-actif, this Monday will be my first full 20 gallon water change using just bio-actif. My last 2 water changes were a mix of pro reef and bio-actif and so far so good.
Thanks everyone lots of in put
I switched to the Red Sea pro and i've noticed that my Alk is too high with it. I like the Tropic Marine best
Hands down tropic Marin pro. End discussion.
Even using the same brand there will be some variation from one batch to another.
I use Reefcrystals, Foster Smith often has good sales w/ free shipping.
Before i switched to Scripps hose water, the last Salt I mixed was Red Sea Pro (15 gallons/week) and I noticed some significant differences between batches on Alk & Magnesium. I have also used I/O and I/O Reef Crystals and found them more consistent.
Either way, no matter what the source, I found it necessary to test the tank & replacement mix parameters, and make necessary adjustments when/if needed. Lots of trouble if/when I get lazy and assume things.
Once again lots of thanks live always used scrips I have a friend that owns a company called ocean in motion basically same as Catalina in fact he worked for them at one time .also does all the water for max show and refapoluza at oc fair grounds just try to future a different route .never tried corals didn't have the patient to do them and I'm very interested .dont get me wrong I've had corals just always died
