      Anyone install car a/v ?

I just purchased a in-dash touchscreen head unit along with backup camera... anyone know how to install these before I take it to my local a/v shop?

If it came with a harness, it's fairly simple. Pull old radio, disconnect plugs. Install double din kit, instructions should be included, fairly simple then attach new wiring harness to the plugs you disconnected from stock radio. Plug in new head unit to new harness, install into double din kit. For the back up camera, you may have to run a wire all the way to the rear of vehicle, under carpet or pop the wire through the fire wall and route the wire under car and through the frame or tucked up where it will be safe then attach camera where you want it. Disconnect battery before install. Should take an afternoon to install.

My local mechanic quoted me $225... I was hoping to spend closer to $100 if possible..

Chris don't take it to a mechanic. Make sure you take it to a stereo shop, in my experience mechanics are not very good at wiring (stereo harness) and or running the required power and video line for the backup camera. What year/ make/ model is the unit going into, does the new touch screen have gps, and or bluetooth, and what brand is it? Do you also have all of the wiring harnesses and dash kit for your car already? Call me when you have time, i was a custom car stereo installer for many years, but like you have little free time anymore. I can help you make sure you have everything you need and it is done correctly.
