      Getting back to reefing......

Hey guys....so I've been on sdreefs for a bit now but never really made a post. Now that I'm trying to get back into the hobby I'm looking for input and help from fellow reefers. I just picked up a 220 gal acrylic tank off of Craigslist for a steal. Sssoooooo....When I bought this tank the guy was completely up front about the tank being involved in a small fire.....yeah I know how this may sound but prior to giving up any cash I made sure that the tank held water with no leaks. A tank with this much water volume would be no fun to clean up, lol. He even threw in a uv sterilizer, a couple rio pumps, Marineland filter and a few other things. So I plan on building a custom stand and plan on doing a very clean setup. I'm interested in getting input on what type of equipment I should keep an eye out for for this size of a tank. I started years ago with a 30gal, then 35gal cube, then to a 65 gal, so this is a big jump but I'm looking forward to it. I'll try to post pics shortly. Dimensions are: 74"long x 67"tall x 19"wide. Any suggestions on sump size?

They guy I bought it from didn't have gfi outlets behind the tank and this was the results, so let that be something to keep in mind.

Yeah that's what I thought at first but it held water with no leaks and the acrylic didn't melt anywhere so I'm hoping this turns out for the best, lol

And that is why we use GFCI's on all of our filter skids... Lol

Lol yeah I was looking into the aquarium controllers today. Deciding between Neptune systems or reef keeper elite. I'm just not sure on the lights and I'll look into those skimmers. And do you guys know much from experience on those maxspect gyro's?

If you are interested in a Digital Aquatics controller, look at the Archon instead of the RKE. They just started shipping them and it is very, very powerful.

      second that...

Also I've herd good things about the maxspect gyres. From what people are saying they move a lot of water. Probably be great on that big tank.

I'd put that tank in an easy area to clean uo, fill it with water and on the ground and let it sit there for and a few months while to plan this out. This will make sure it will hold water for long periods, not warp and not give out after. A few weeks of holding water. Would hate for you to start building a setup, put $3,000 into equipment, sand, rock and livestock ans then it decides to leak or give out.
