Where should I put the ATO sensor?

I'm new to the hobby and I just picked up a 28 JBJ nano cube. I'm trying to hook up the Tunze 3152 ATO and I don't know which part of the tank would be the best location for it. I tried in the tank but the magnet seems to get in the way of the rim, so it sits too far down in the water. I have it in the back of the tank now, but I don't know which chamber is best. Any recommendations?

Ive never really had a all in one system, but I always have the ATO sensor in the same section as the return pump.

Please forgive me, I am very new to this. I have two return pump chambers on either side of the aquarium. The water level in those fluctuates depending on if I'm running both pump simultaneously or alternating via a wavemaker. So do I need to just decide on one way to run the pumps so that the water level stays the same for the sensor? I hope this makes sense to you... it has me confused.
