      No filter nano?

As many of you know, I am in the planning process of my next build. I'm waiting for construction to end on my house and my original plan/space that I thought I would have for my tank isn't going to work out. As it turns out, I won't have any sort of underneath storage for a sump or anything. I can probably still get away with a small reservoir for an ATO but that is about all. So, I've been looking at filter less tanks. I know it has and can be done, but not sure to what success.

Has anyone seen a nano with no sort of filtration, e.g. just live rock and sand and a powerhead? I could of course do a HOB filter of some sort, but don't love the look of it, but it's not out of the question. Just wondering about peoples opinions!

      Thanks!

I ran a 5 gallon without a filter for 1 year and a half. Although after about 6 months I added a small canister filter. I removed all the filtration from it just to put a bag of chemipure in it.(ghetto carbon reactor) It supported a clown, shrimps, anemone and shrooms. 80% water twice a month sometimes once a month. Nothing ever died in the tank, no crazy algae outbreaks, no water chemistry issues. I am becoming a fan of these pico/nano tanks. All the livestock from that tank went into my new 8 gallon. My new Cadlights tank has enough room in the back for a skimmer, media bags, heater, ATO. I am very impressed with the Cadlights pico/nano tanks. There are some very nice all in one options out there.

Nice. Yeah I think ultimately I am going to add a small AC50 or 70 on the back, and rig it to hold some chemipure and a makeshift fuge. I think it would be a small enough footprint on the back of the tank to still keep a pretty clean look to it.

http://www.cadlights.com/index.php?m...roducts_id=226 no need for fuge. Bio pellet reactor for nano's is here. Bio pellets are much better than a fuge imo. Hang on back or in tank. I just ordered one for my 8. wont fit in my pico with skimmer but has the hob option. I am probably going overkill on my tiny tank. Its all about trial and error. I might go back to no filter, skimmer, reactor.

Haha that thing looks kind of cool, I'll have to look into it but I don't know if I'm into bio balls/pellets

I used to have my 14g setup for two years with no mechanical filters and no problem. Weekly water change was all I ever did.

Right now, I picked up another 14g Oceanic Biocube with stand from another member.
Just replaced some part of the stand due to water damage. Will try to replace the light to LED's and might consider RapidLED.
I will try to set it up and probably will do the same thing on my last one. A little project to keep me away from trouble. LOL!

And here's the member's link where I picked up the Cube
