They say 3 days after the rain you should be fine.

Though I have read other users say they get water during the rain and have no problems.

I personally get water before the rain if I know its coming or wait a couple of days after.

It pulls from the bottom of the end of the pier so I don't know how much runoff from the land would affect the water way out there. If it was an emergency, I wouldn't worry too much about getting it during the weather or soon after.

I do it anyway, just pour it through a filter sock. If the water was bad I think Scripps would turn the suction/intake pumps off

The intake is actually about 30' below the surface in 60' of water. So it is pulled from the middle of a deep water column. I wouldn't have any issue getting water during the rain when I was using it for my 300g tank. I mix now, but that is really because of my back and I don't need much water.
