Of course you the first to get one. Do you have to have fusion turned on to use it or can a dinasor like me use it with old style set up? Look forward to seeing this in action.

You *must* update the Apex to 4.33_BD14 firmware. You can program the dosing using a new profile type. But that's a bit of a PITA, and is best used only in unusual cases. The new dosing scheduler in APEX Fusion is amazingly simple to use. The majority of DOS owners will want to use (and should use) Fusion.

Be sure to check out the DOS Getting Started tutorial. https://www.neptunesystems.com/getstarted/dos/

The Apex MUST be wired to the router. Your computer can be on WiFi.

Every update I've done on my Apex has been wireless. It's not recommended due to WiFi inefficiency. If for some reason you lose connection to the update server, there is a chance that the Apex firmware will corrupt. My WiFi access point is a Cisco Aironet and it's about 10 feet from my tank. Because of that, I'm confident that I will not lose connection. Still, it's not best practice.
If you have a Macbook, just bring your macbook to the apex, hook up the apex via USB to your macbook and run the update.

A direct connection is not the recommended method. It should be used only in rare circumstances. The preferred scenario is to have both the Apex and the computer using wired network connections. But as I said, as long as the Apex is hardwired, it's usually ok to have the computer running the Flash Utility on a WiFi connection.

Really? Thats weird considering the update is downloaded via the flash utility and then pushed to the Apex from your computer. You would think they would want the connection from the computer to the Apex to be wired since the update is coming from your computer to the Apex. If you connect your Apex to your router and your laptop is wireless, the update would go from your laptop to the router via WiFi and then the router would route the packets to the Apex. When I write login scripts for my clients domain servers, I always disable the logon scripts for WiFi nodes because of this exact reason. If they recommend plugging the Apex directly to your network Gateway then the update must be delivered some other way and I'm way off target.

Never mind, I just re-read your post. The recommended way is to have both the Apex and the computer wired. That makes sense.

I still say that dosing pump looks weird. Then again, I prefer the other guys so I am obviously biased.
