Looks totally normal.. Mine will do this a couple times a week or more. Just part of their nomal digestive behavior I believe. Unless they start to deflate and become gooey and look like they are deteriorating , then you're good to go

      Totally normal.
Carlos's always shrinks up and hides especially when it's cold.

Normal. Sometimes they shrink up for no reason and other times they take a fat dump

My guess is it is abused by the clown, clowns huddle more at night and a large maroon can harass the anemone a lot, one of my maroons would actually chew the tentacles at times of the anemone. Traded that clown in long ago as it bit the hand that feeds it too, see if your clown really digs into the anemone it may become a real problem for the anem if it continues as it begins to close and feed less, a different clown or a second or larger anemone may help take the load off the anem. If it starts looking haggard and stringy and losing tentacles you may have to do something but if its just closes often it may not be an issue. I wish I had a picture of what mine looked like ages ago after the large clowns had damaged the anems to post

they dont really abuse the anemones. yeah once in a while it might seem that they are snuggling up with them a little too much but nothing that I've seen is anything for concern.
Seems like it is a common thing that other people have mentioned above, that it is just "the way that they are"
plus since I've posted, I've only noticed that same anem do what I questioned about twice. And since you mentioned adding another one, i forgot to mention that I have 2 and I haven't seen the other one act this way since they've been moved into the new tank

Seems like it's just they way they are.

Its totally fine. You may see some stringy dark purple or black mucus come out of them sometimes too. It's totally normal.
As for clowns, my clowns bite off the tentacles of the anemone and they always grow back. I've never had a problem.

Yeah the larger one used to do that to my long tentacle anem. Now with the bubble tip, she doesnt do that anymore.

And yeah I do see that mucus every now and then, too. Was not too worried about that since I knew they had to crap somehow...lol

Light is their main source of energy, no light, no need to stretch out to absorb it, so many do close up like that towards or during lights out period.

Not what I saw at all, the anems ended up stringy and all bulb, virtually no tenctacles to feed with, the removal of the problem maroons solved the issue, nothing changed other than new clowns months later. The same anems were just posted for sale and looked incredible and fully recovered, I actually saw that clown holding tentacles in its mouth as if anchoring itself to the anem. I have never had the same problem in my tank since and can only attribute those torn up anems to the maroon clowns, literally tentacles were disappearing. If I hadn't experienced it I would not think the clown was the issue but the same tank, same placement of anems, same salt and same leds? here are the anems last week before sale, I/ve been cloning anems for years now but never had clowns host in this manner that seemed to destroy the hosting anem. They went from near death to this after the clowns were removed and replaced by others

Since we're on the topic, why would my anemone move from the bottom of the tank to the top where the water meets the surface? Had anemone for 4 months until he moved.

lighting & flow, they seek their proper environment, they also may move to a corner or different spot at times to split or clone themselves. You just want to make sure it comes back out if it hides or they can lose their color that is from the loss of the algae inside of them if they hide too long.
