      My second 90 gallon upgrade

Well I guess it's time to start a new thread since I'm upgrading my 50g zoa and chalice dominated frag tank. Retiring this thread

      http://www.sdreefs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99493

The 90 is a center overflow, thinking I'm gonna change my lights up to two ai sols and 2 48" t5s. That's worked well for me in the past, and should be enough light so the zoas and chalices don't freak out too much. Collecting rock to figure out a scape, will be adding my lps that is currently in my 125 g sps display to this tank. Finally, some room to grow, at least for non-sps. Here's the sps thread for reference

If you'd only known you'd be going back to a 90 you could have kept your old one!

Good luck with the new upgrade john, let us know if you need a hand with anything. Can't wait to see the new setup.

      Steve

      My second 90 gallon upgrade

Got some stuff coming in this week. Plumbing plans are over complicated as usual. Planning a herbie drain, two ai sols and 2 48" t5s on light hangers with open top, ditching the canopy. Ordered an rw15 for flow, might get a second one in 2015. I will have to dial these down to the lowest setting I think. Working on the rock selection, got a couple bigger pieces from Larry to help with structure. Converting from a frag tank to more rock work could be challenging given the three racks of zoa plugs I have. Need some flat pieces and caves for chalices and acans...

I'll get some pics when I get the tank cleaned up, on the stand with the new bulkheads installed.

Ok here's plumbing progression. Painted the sump area of the stand with kilz. Water test with a herbie drain was pretty successful, need a check valve on the return, glue the joints and I'm done.

4 1" bulkheads in this overflow, two for returns and two for drains. Herbie drain is a siphon drain 6" below the level of an emergency standpipe. Standpipe is about .5" below the teeth in the overflow. Pretty silent compared to a durso or Maggie muffler...

For lights gonna go back to open top ghetto with conduit light hangers, two ai sol blues and two 48" T5 Retros on my old light rails. Here's the harness for the t5s

Here's what I'm gonna use for in tank flow. Got one of these to start, we'll see if I need two for master/slave when I get the livestock transfer and setup done.

      My second 90 gallon upgrade

Thinking how to aquascape this tank when I've got 5 frag racks of zoas and chalices. Might build a few of these and sink em in the sand...

Looking good so far. You're gonna love that RW15. I have one on my 65 and it pushes a 1-2" wave back and forth.

Cool, I heard these are pretty powerful. My return pump is undersized, but I don't want a lot of flow in here given its lps and zoas. Just enough so I don't have any dead spots. We'll see how it goes on the lowest setting...

Goodbye sexy yellowish cube. You served me well after I finally stopped switching lights every two months...

      My second 90 gallon upgrade

One long day later. Still gotta hang the lights. My return manifold is a tad too wide so it's putting some pressure on the bulkheads, a bit of a leak but I'm hoping salt creep takes care of that.

Lights hung. Need to get my corals moved around, not sure how to scape this narrow tank...
