Ok, I want to get rid of my mojanos before they get out of control. Should I get a matted filefish? And how do I catch him if he starts eating my lps/sps?

Forgive my ignorance, I've never used a fish trap before and am kindof nervous about this.
no experience with file fish and fish traps, but the shyer the fish the harder to catch, the more aggressive feeding fish are the easier to catch. How much mojanos do you have? I have used aiptasia x with great results
You may want to try peppermint shrimp first, safer alternative.
There's maybe a dozen mojanos. I've tried kalk and mojano wand, just been making em spread. I've never heard of a peppermint eating a mojano. I could try that I guess but I would bet my melanarus would just eat em. Most of these nems are unfortunately buried in two very large sps colonies. I think it's gonna be hard for a filefish to get em, might just have to dump the colonies.
Maybe I will get some peppermints since I have aptasia in my softy tank...just hope the melanarus or emerald crabs don't tear em apart....
I had a filefish when we were passing around Chompers last year. It ate all of my majano, but a few grew back. He went through the 5 or 6 that I had within hours and immediately started on my zoas.
It wasn't too hard to get him out of my 50.
Dont risk the peppermint with that melanarus. I had one and he murdered three of my shrimp. Just stick with the aptasia killing mixes and syphon it all out after 15 min in calm water.
Good feedback. I just can't seem to kill em with kalk for some reason, not sure why, works like a charm on aptasia. I wonder who has chompers these days...
I had the same problem. DON'T GET A FIL FISH. Get about 4 peppermint shrimp. Problem solved
Well I ordered a filefish and peppermints. If I'm to use peppermints I guess u have to catch my wrasse and put him in the sump.
I mean I have to catch the wrasse. Better think up a fish trap and practice...
Chompers has unfortunately passed
Peppermints aren't a guarantee... I was never able to find any that would eat it. Luckily my majanos really didn't spread much... not like aptasia. The only way I was able to permanently get rid of majano was to frag it off the rock.

AptasiA is not my worry at this point, I can manage that with peppermints for sure. I guess the prevailing theory is peppermints can work for mojanos, as long as they don't have another food source and its hit or miss. Fortunately I've got two strategies now. Just need to figure out how to shuffle the fish around.
Maybe it's time I get a hospital tank just to hold fish. My sumps are kindof risky compartment wise.
