Why would you want them? They are a pest in a tank.

i have heard that linkias and other large starfish love to eat them. I have heard they can also have other beneficial properties. there was a thread once where someone was selling them as he had hundreds in his tank...

I wouldn't do it, I have never seen my linkia eat an asterina. But if you are close to San marcos you are welcome to a few from my tank. They really can be a terrible pest. They are not a problem in my current tank, but a few years ago I had a 55 gallon that had an asterina star explosion, you litterally couldn't see into the tank in places cause there were so many. I'll give you some now, and sell you a harlequin shrimp later😜.

Agree with other posters, I would not put them in your tank. I recall reading something about linkias and asterinas and it wasn't that linkias ate asterinas, but rather they ate the algae that grew on the asterinas? Asterinas are hard to get rid off once they are in your tank.

Ok well for the first time tonight I saw my linkia eat an asterina star. I still wouldn't add them to your tank, for sure he doesn't eat them faster than they multiply. I snapped a quick iphone pic for proof, I watched him for at least 15 min and he deffinately swallowed the Asterina.
