temporary turn off return pump question

What is the longest time you can turn off return pump?

A buddy of mine is having issues with the baffles in his sump and wants to redo the sump. Just wondering if removing the sump for a day would be bad? Im thinking he will re-silicone the baffles in place and wait for it to dry, then reconnect everything.

His 130g tank has lots of LR and a handful of fish with a few corals. Mostly LPS. Just wanted your thoughts and/or advice. thanks

I would think if you kept powerheads running the tank should be fine. Maybe put a couple extras in to recreate the flow you removed as much as possible.

Also, most of the aquarium grade silicones require a full 48 hours for curing so the sump may be out of the tank a little bit longer than planned. Check the package.

I've had power go out for 15 hrs.. No pumps etc. All is did was airate water and heat loss was major issue.. But still lost nothing. I would guess that if heater, powerheads are functioning all is fine for a day, I would add an airline to oxygenate as well as adjust powerheads to break surface of water to allow oxygen exchange. Just my 2 cents
Might add a dose of prime for good measure

It would be fine indefinitely assuming the display tank still has flow and a heater. A sump isn't necessary. Just make sure he has some power heads and a heater in the tank and it should be fine.

cool. yeah, the tank has two powerheads, and heater. (but I think its hot in his house so he has heater off.) I can lend him a powerhead as well just in case but his are pretty strong so I think he will be fine. Thanks for the advice!

I'm in the exact same boat a/c Bill doubled and just under a month and half left till baby is here.

You could also aim a powerhead upwards to break the surface of the water.
