Don't forget the collateral species that will be harder to import because they look similar to the banned ones. The people enforcing the bans are not going to be coral experts, anything that looks similar will be assumed to be illegal and will go in the same pile as the stuff they meant to confiscate.

Jason is correct. As I mentioned in chat, the banning on Branching Frogspawn would likely result in the banning off all Euphylli (Octospawn, Hammer Corals and potentially Torch Coral).

Technically, yes. But it would be harder to track at this level. It would probably fall to the site board and moderators to limit the sale of banned corals here. What you do outside of the forum is up to you though.

I believe the ban will be on importing only. Not on owning or trading/selling these corals that are here.

Maybe Mr. Saltwater tank was wrong, which in this case would be good.

Very interesting this sounds very serious. Very concerned now. Going to do more research on this.

A complete ban while unlikely is possible. It all depends on what the NMFS rules is necessary. They could make it illegal to possess any of the 20 species.

It is an interesting arguement about inter-reefer sales, the thought that corals may end up illegal to sell since there may not be a means of tracking where it came from, collected or cultured.

It's highly unlikely they'll ban the sale of these corals that are already imported. They're trying to protect an endangered species, not destroy and invasive or dangerous one. I don't think there's any chance they'll make it illegal to posses or sell these corals after the import ban becomes law, if it does.

I was thinking it was going to be illegal to posses sell or trade this corals. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
