      newbie with no livestock yet

      Hi Guys,

Im a newbie to the whole aquarium hobby. Got my 95gal hexa. Been cycling it for 2 weeks now. Live sand and live rock with a lot of bristle worms and aiptasia! Bought 10 snails and 10 hermits to serve as clean up crew. But other than that...i have nothing. If you're selling anything for a newbie who doesnt know what to get....let me know!

I think I need more clean up crew? or a few corals for beginners maybe?

Hi, tank looks great! To answer your question about coral prices, it is normally much cheaper on here. Check out the livestock sale threads. Keep an eye out too for freebies. People are always giving away xenia and kenya trees. Just be sure to pass the deal along if they grow or you don't want them anymore!

      Looks like your onto something!

Get something to clean up the aiptasia, if you are thinking you may want sps?

What kind of filtration are you currently using?
How often do you want/plan to do water changes?
Are you testing the water? Parameters are ?

It is hard to recommend livestock without knowing what you have to keep it going forward.

But still, good luck and get something to get those aiptasia early, cause later you will need sps.

It happens to folk who get involved with reefer

there's something and with live established piece of rock
I used brightwell bacter7 to help cycle I was up in 2.5-3 weeks no cyano no hair algae or any type of issues
but check out that link also
+1 get those aiptasias out asap if you ever frag then off to get rid of them always do in a separate container to avoid them releasing more into the tank or like I do I use aipX in separate container til it melts then wash off the excess and return back to tank after. Be careful. The LESS chemicals the better.

      Good luck

Welcome. I'm a fan of using kalk paste to kill aiptasia. Mic a little water with Mrs. Wages pickling lime you get at the canning section at Wal-Mart, then squirt it on the little *******s.

Welcome to sd reefs one thing I noticed is that you have a few intakes really low in the tank so if wherever there going leaks it could drain the tank all The way down past those intakes I recommend getting a sump as
Soon as possible, for now raise the intakes as much as you can
Also check out reefcentral.com read read read

Welcome! Just thought id give you a heads up NOT to buy Xenia or Kenya trees. If you want some just ask. there's plenty of people (myself included) who can't give them away for free fast enough

+1 on the xenia and kenya trees. Easy to get for free on the board here. They are good for beginners, but you will quickly out grow them and they can become a pain in your tank since they can be really invasive.

if I raise the intakes....would that not affect the flow of the water around the tank? im not using any powerheads coz the flow form the canister filter and the skimmer already creates a whirlpool washing machine like effect on my waters. but then again, i dont know what im doing so i dont know if im doing it right hehehe.
