      Making a 14g biocube a sump/fuge for my 29g display tank

I realize I can drill, bulkhead, or overflow box. What is the easiest and what hats the cheapest way of doing it?

I don't want the refugium to be under the stand which I don't think is an issue I want to look at it and use it as a frag tank as well if possible.

My question is how do I plumb the 29g to the 14, I understand that the overflow will be caught with a filter sock which will be in the same section as my protein skimmer. Then the water will travel to the refugium area. Then back to the pump or return chamber.

Should I rip the rear wall out of the 14g cube and install acrylic walls? For the separation of chambers?

I'm excited. I just have searched the Internet for people converting biocubes to sump refugium with no success. And I think it will be a fun project. I have everything except a skimmer. And plumbing. But non the less I guess my goal is to have a visually appealing sump fuge that I can play with and have a tremendous impact on the stability and overall well being of my display tank. Any random thoughts that may come to mind don't be afraid to share. I'm excited to hear what out of the box ideas people may have

This idea was started by the lack of interest in my 14g rimless when I tried to sell it. And I think it's a beautiful little tank. I could buy a 10g and make it fit in my stand. CRAM IT UNDER MY TANK. But I have learned from precious builds it is important to give your self room to work and play with.

Any help guys? Would it be easiest to just have an overflow box? But I do have a question. If the water level in the rear gets to high there's a slow leak that runs to the front of the tank. But if keep the water level at recommended level have no issues.

This leads me to believe that drilling is the only way to make this happen?

My question is how should I design or transform the 14g biocube into a visually appealing sump and frag tank combo

OK really looking for input on how to make or buy a HOB OVERFLOW. or drill it out? Can I drill it out full?

Is it worth drilling or is it possible to use a hob overflow?

Keep I looked at the eshops nano overflow. I think I'd rather have a bulkhead fitting. And drill it. I'm open to draining halve way or so anyone have any experience drilling a half filled tank. Is it possible?

Hey man, I see not a ton of response here but I have a 12g nano cube that nobody wants to buy either so I was thinking of making it into a sump/fuge whatever as well. I really don't see any reason your drawing wont work. It is exactly what I thought of doing. I would suggest drilling if you can and just go with it from there. Since I wont have the room or be able to drill this upcoming tank, I am using the 12g for a qt tank or maybe a frag tank in the garage or something. We shall see.
