coraline question

Wondering if anyone has ever grown coraline algae in a fish only w/live rock, (as much coraline as in a reef tank).

Coraline algie is not only present on reef tanks, I think it is part of a saltwater tank no matter what you keep on is, FO, FOWLR, reef. The only reason you see more Coraline algie on reefs is because tipicaly the Ca amounts on a reef are higher than on any other SW tank.
But any healthy SW tank must have some coraline.

and LIGHT! coralline likes a reasonable amount of light.

I have a 125 FOWLR running only 2x65w PC's and I have coraline growth. Double the dose fo your calcium and you will see it grow fast

If you have a FOLR system you can grow a lot of coralline. I've gotten increadable results with weekly doses of b-ioinic or similiar 2 part calcium/alkalinity additives, it takes time but be consistent and it will spread exponentially. Quality light is important but at lower levels is fine. It actually seems to take off with realatively low light levels. It can also help if you flip and rearrange your rocks occasionally, sometimes it starts out strong on the undersides of the rock.

I read that brusing off existing coralline with a toothbrush helps too. Dont brush it off completly just lights on the surface of it.
