Why do we spend our money on this hobby?!?

Two weeks ago my tank was doing great and all of the sudden things started to fall apart! I feel like in this hobby it is just a matter of time before you encounter a real heart breaker! I am trying not to let this mishap get to me but i am considering selling my display and livestock! last week i noticed my 140 dollar Bleeding apple scoly had a rip in the flesh, so i transferred it to my other tank to hopefully recover and get away from the aggressor. Two days later it was gone! Then, my yellow coris wrasse (the one that i thought ate my scoly) some how jumped through my cover and dried up on the floor! He was probably depressed knowing he costed me 25 bux and killed a 140 dollar scoly! So i figured o well stuff happens. Then i noticed my cadlights bio pellets reactor was clogged. I took it out and throughly cleaned it, put it back and added 1 cup because it looked like they were getting smaller and it was time to add some. Two days later all hell breaks loose! THE MAJORITY OF MY SPS STARTED STNING! Long story short i lost my favorite piece, BEAUTIFUL RED DRAGON colony that i traded from a fellow reefer on here, and i lost about 5 other beautiful colonies including a basketball sized setosa!!! CAN ANY ONE PLEASE MAKE SENSE OF THIS? Did taking the pellets offline for a hour or so spike my phosphate? It was .01 before and then i checked it after my tank took a dump and it was .10. So know i am looking for expensive knowledge.... Also, i am looking to see if anyone is interested in purchasing this COMPLETE TANK. If so pm me and if the deal is right for both of us then i will get rid of it. If i get lowballers i will just keep it and try get colonies/info to replace the old from my fellow reefers. thanks!

      RIP!

THE RED DRAGON WHEN I FIRST GOT IT.

MY TANK BEFORE THE CRASH/WHAT EVER IT WAS!

AND, THE TANK NOW IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED. (Please don't even pm me if your are trying to lowball)

      THANKS ALL!

This is truly a frustrating hobby sometimes. I have been dealing with a drain issue on my tank that has me ready to toss it out the window. Fortunately I can't lift it so I guess I'll have to keep trying to fix it.

Keep in mind that when it comes to livestock, we are all just guessing. There are so many variables that we do not even know about its a miracle that wqe can keep any of this stuff alive.

I had an sps crash when I stopped using biopellets, but you didn't stop very long. That phosphate swing is not that bad, maybe you had ammonia or nitrite/nitrate issues though. Like Dave said, hard to say... Sorry man

So sorry about your losses but Your loss is pretty minimal IMO it happens maybe it's why it's so intriguing cause it's all so fragile like dynamite
"It's always something" is what I say the really frustrating part is sometimes it's really hard to pinpoint why?
It just happens sometimes and hurts bad when it does
Ever see Steve west' tank crash oh my it was buckets and buckets of coral gone!

That's a bummer... if it helps, I love your rockwork!
It was kind of nice when I stopped reefing a few years back and started focusing on my truck... Nice to work on something that wasn't constantly trying to destroy itself.

      It's not for everyone
I've tried to help people so much in the hobby
There was one guy nice guy but no matter how much money he spent on gadgets he never once bought a test kit
You need to live learn from your mistakes and move on if you truly love the hobby/ lifestyle like the above post

The po4 swing isn't that drastic and wouldn't crash a tank that quickly.

I'm guessing it was the biopellets, and not Because you took then offline, but because they were clogged and couldn't get water flow over the pellets. They are extremely dangerous when the flow is stopped, and the Bacteria is able to colonize on the pellets to extreme populations. I'm guessing when you turned them back online; all the bacteria was pushed into your tank, and/or in combination with adding more pellets.

I used to run biopellets, but it was like walking on a tight rope

just keepswimming...lol... I lost like $1000 worth of livestock that I purchased before my crash, and here I am again trying to restock it If you trade corals rather than buying them, it is easier to deal with in case your tank crashes

Man, I'm really sorry about your losses. That's a beautiful tank.
But I must say I do feel a little.....just a little better knowing that I'm not the only one this has happened to.
I've never had a full tank crash but it does really suck losing a nice corals) or fish(es)
I'm obsessed with a tank I haven't even set up yet!!
