Has anyone else tested for phosphates in the Scripps Pier water? I am curious if others have had the same results.
Sorry if this was discussed earlier, I don't really have time to read the whole thread. Also, could you state what type of phosphate test you are using?
Thanks.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news. Was at the pier just today and it looks like the hose has been changed from the previous black rubber hose.
It also looks like someone ran it the hell over. It's leaking little sprays of water throughout the hose body. The hose feels a lot more expensive than it usually does. I wrapped it up neatly near the concrete/metal guards but the damage is already done.
Edit:
It's by no means unusable, but just don't expect to stay dry if you turn it up a ways.
Hello all I just picked up 50 gallons from the pier yesterday and did a test before using it in the tank, so I thought I would share the results.
Magnesium 1440
Calcium 390
Alkalinity 7.3 dkh
Ph. 8.1
Phosphates .08
Nitrates .25

Due to the rain yesterday I would be hesitant to use it!

The thought did cross my mind about the run off, but it was early in the day, and from what I've read is the pick up is at the end of the pier. I just started using the water from Scrips, and this was my second pick up. Should I still be concerned about the quality of the water since it had just started raining? I appreciate the input as I am somewhat new to this.

Most likely ok. Have you read through the entire thread? Lots of differing opinions. I've been using it since the late 70s & never had a problem that I could directly attribute to it.
Now, DUCK, here come the arrows!

I have read through the thread along with other articles and studies regarding the use of scripts water, and yes I have read many different opinions. I do appreciate the word of caution

Does anyone use any additives when using scripps water ? I've been using it for a while and absolutely love it.
I haven't used it since I've mixed my own salt for some time, but I would add some calcium to it. It tests on the low end for me, and I'm not running a reactor to correct it, so I would dose it to up the calcium level before I put it into my tank.
I've been adding the two part calcium and alk before I use it for a water change to keep my levels constant in my tank.

Ok cool, thanks. I havnt tested this last full up but last time the calcium was at 420ppm 8kh 8.2ph nitrate-0 nitrite-0 amonia-0 phosphate-.1 I normally just add a little calcium, kents essential elements, and iodide. I do have a 2 part calcium buffer but havnt used it. Isn't a kh of 8 ideal?
Anyone else add to the water?
I add two part via drip system. mag, strontium & potassium weekly.

And do you add only after doing a weekly water change ?
