I'm heading to scripps in about 15 minutes
JC,
I checked out the link,, In lamens terms for people like myself does it affect us getting water from the Scripps Tap, Did we ever monitor or pay attention to the quality in the past or just worry about getting it after a rain fall?
It was a nice tool to see where runoff was affected... Does it change what we get from the tap? I doubt it because the tap comes from the storage tanks.
I just posted that link as an update to the water quality links that were provided in the initial posts.
But, you're right; we're mostly concerned about the run-off after the rains (I'm not sure how they control the "storage tanks" and how long after the rain we should wait). And, as far as red tide, some people find it doesn't matter much because it's mostly on the surface whereas Scripps draws water from down deep.
Though, with SD's failing sewage lines, I hope we somehow get enough warning so we don't end up with an aquarium full of fecal bacteria.
FYI...
I picked up 50g of Scripps yesterday. I was just using some in a bin to test a skimmer mod and then was going to use the rest for a w/c. It was noticeably cloudy and had a slightly muddy/earthy smell.
It's getting dumped... the w/c can wait.
safe today? it's been a few days and i was thinking of picking some up after work this afternoon
I'm waiting till Monday.
Well its nice to see lots of people using Scripps sucessfully because I wanted to use it from books I've read saying "use it if you can get it" but I also like others was told by AW & Fountains to deffinately not use it, cause its so polluted.
I think I will be makin a trip to scripps this weekend.
Is there any time limit on waiting before putting scripps water in tank? Or can you just get it and put into your tank?
Just make sure you heat the water up before putting it in, other than that it should be fine

Birch seems to use it with little to no problems. All of the tanks get their original water form scripps. from there its filtered and heated or chilled to the appropriate temperature. For Coral tanks the water goes through additional refugium/ skimming/ diatom filters before it enters the tank. no supplements are added to the Fiji coral tank which is full of SPS. SPS spawning has also been successful with scripps.
For anyone who thinks that AW is correct in there statment that Scripps water is polluted is very wrong. Scripps water is perfect in paramters and has a po4 of 0.01 with a hanna that is very clean water. AW wants your fat wallet and you to buy there water. Which I have heard is scripps water and I have seen someone from aw in a pt cruiser filling up about 400 gallons worth of saltwater in there jugs. Hhmm shady. Slander not even.
Well thanks for the info. I wanted to use natural & not have to pay for water & then salt. this person also tried to steer me away from sdreefs as "not being reputable". thanks for savin my wallet for better things, like corals!
Who was this? Do you have his name? Or what does he look like? As someone who has spent literally thousands of dollars at AW, I would love to have a friendly chat with him. If they are going to go that far, then my wallet is going to go in the opposite direction. If you are not comfortable "outing" him in public, please send me a PM with the info. I would love to hear his perspective on this.
