Beats Buying Water And Salt And Mixing
does it?
I've noticed a lot of you use Scripps water. Do you have to purify the water when you get it home? Or is it okay to just put it in your tank?

Just heat is and put it in the tank. Also check out the first page of this thread.Originally Posted by pcon
i was also wondering if it's okay if i just dump the water in my tank without heating it??if not, then how do i heat it up??and for how long??sorry for the n00b question.
Some people heat it up before they add it, some people (like me) just toss it straight in. I guess it depends how much water you're changing (%) I only do about 5g on a 60g+ system so the temp doesn't change that much. But if you're doing 5g on a 10g system it'll make a big difference. Just heat it in the containers you get the water in. Heater goes in (preferably w/ something to move the water around) and then you're good after it heats up. Other (faster) ways are to heat it on the stove or put the containers in a hot bath (I've done it). Usually those are under drastic measures though. HTH Cheers!
thanks sandiegan, but should this be okay?can i just dump a whole 30g of scripps water in my tank and use my 200watt heater and let it sit for acouple of days?im just starting my 30g aquarium with nothing on it,just wanna get it started with the water..
Pour it in and let it go.
I put in fresh scripps water in a nd heated in the tank but I had no live stock. I add water without heating it. I use an airline tubing hooked to a contianer and it slowing flows in. I do this with all additives just remove a gallon of water and add it with alk, ca, ro etc...it then just flows slowly into the system. you do everything "big" bigair.
If you're just starting your tank and this is the first water toss it all in and toss a heater in the tank. Should be fully heated in 12 hrs or less depending on water movement.
thanks for the advice,i just got home from scripps water and the water smelled pretty ok.i was just wondering,im sure i got the right water, but the scripps water hose/faucet is located before the entrance of the pier right???lol and its right front of the filters(filter 1,2,3 white big tank)?im sorry this is my first time going there.
yep, thats the stuff, black hose.
okay cool.thanks =)....
To heat water fast in a blue aquatainer, I drop in one of those hot tea heaters from the drug store ($6.00 at Longs) heats it to about 80 degrees in two hours.
anyone know if the water is good rite now?
i never got water from there?
is it reef safe??
