I've noticed a lot of you use Scripps water. Do you have to purify the water when you get it home? Or is it okay to just put it in your tank?

Some people heat it up before they add it, some people (like me) just toss it straight in. I guess it depends how much water you're changing (%) I only do about 5g on a 60g+ system so the temp doesn't change that much. But if you're doing 5g on a 10g system it'll make a big difference. Just heat it in the containers you get the water in. Heater goes in (preferably w/ something to move the water around) and then you're good after it heats up. Other (faster) ways are to heat it on the stove or put the containers in a hot bath (I've done it). Usually those are under drastic measures though. HTH Cheers!

I put in fresh scripps water in a nd heated in the tank but I had no live stock. I add water without heating it. I use an airline tubing hooked to a contianer and it slowing flows in. I do this with all additives just remove a gallon of water and add it with alk, ca, ro etc...it then just flows slowly into the system. you do everything "big" bigair.

If you're just starting your tank and this is the first water toss it all in and toss a heater in the tank. Should be fully heated in 12 hrs or less depending on water movement.

To heat water fast in a blue aquatainer, I drop in one of those hot tea heaters from the drug store ($6.00 at Longs) heats it to about 80 degrees in two hours.
