I have always used real reef rock and never had any issues. Used all man made rock (real reef) in my 40 breeder and when I upgraded to a 120 gallon tank did a mix of real reef rock and dry shelf and base rock from www.macrorocks.com. Both are the best in my opinion to avoid unwanted hitchhikers!
