rainbow hillae

I had to ask Duecejt what this was, not sure why they call it rainbow hillae as he said it is basically an acan echinata if I understood him right. Wish they all came colored like this one but it was on ebay and looks like a killer addition to my tank

Any further information would help but I understand they are easy care level and plan to treat it like the other acans unless anyone knows more about it??

Its actually more like an acan bowerbanki. Just keep in the same light and conditions as your average acan

Looks sweet, not sure what the differences between bowerbanki, hillae or maxima are. I've got a bowerbanki and a maxima (might be a hillae). It is like an echinata, but huge polyps, different than my bower. Treat em all the same though, just throw em in the sand and feed em meaty stuff...

cool, I have been buying up acans lately and see a lot of varaitions, some obviously a result of lighting too. The meaty stuff..., generally I feed them mysis and yellowtail eggs, any sugestions? The names can get confusing, acans echinata, acan lords, now hillae and maximae..and bowerbanki.

I buy things simply that look cool and that I have had decent luck on keeping but the naming of some corals and the lighting changing them make this a difficult hobby at times to discuss, then the morphs come into hobby and confuse me so much that I am left clueless at times on the type of coral

They love mysis, pieces of scallop, pretty much anything chunky. Silversides if they are chopped up. Probably don't have to target feed em, but it is fun to do so. I no longer target feed my welso, but he is giant. Gets enough on his own, or the clown that hosts him feeds him.

Thanks after the price I want to put it on steriods and grow it out with chopped squid, silversides and my ex fiance... kidding but you did say anything chunky!!

well it arrived today, late this afternoon after fedex delays but shipped pretty well.

photo of it in my tank under my leds and no enhancements or photo shopping is below. This is the best piece I have ever seen that arrived and looks virtually identical to the posted photo. Seller was eastcoastreefer on Ebay, AAA+++++ for authenticity

thanks, pretty happy with it, it really looks like the ebay photo, a pleasant change versus some sellers augmenting the lights for a good picture

Wow he has some nice looking stuff on ebay. My only problem with buying corals on ebay is I can never get over the cost of shipping. I'm sure in most cases the price is fair, but it still adds a lot to the cost.

The shipping does inspire you to buy more to offset shipping, but their packing is crazy, boxed, styrofoam lined, and peanuts with a heat pack over nighted. I would not do it for things you can find locally but I have had inferno bubs and other pieces that are hard to find shipped and been happy. I would make sure they are seller with feedback that states prior corals arrived well, I have another pectina coming as well from another seller. I don't enjoy the shipping cost but sometimes sales tax alone covers the shipping cost, my concern is about the corals quality since you don't get to see it. just my two cents though, this piece was awesome enough to not worry about shipping, some sellers offer free shipping on large orders though.

The shipping cost justified adding some rainbow acans and GOW palys to my order
