      Question Chloramines-specific RO filters

So the City of San Diego Water Department uses chloramines in my tap water. Does that mean I should be extraordinarily careful and purchase chloramine-specific RO filters, such as offered by BRS?

I stumbled across a thread on another forum where there was one poster that was adamant these types of filters are a waste of money. But trying to find these "many articles" alluded to from Spectrapure regarding this topic suggesting it's not necessary has been fruitless, and the only "sticky" link he provided was basically 10 years old which really was just a basic explanation of the science of chloramines with no definitive established treatment regimen provided.

I did discover that Spectrapure does offer chloramine carbon block filters.

So, what has been the experience of others using either Chloramine-specific or standard RO filters here?

I'm leaning heavily towards chloramine filters!

      Anyone else?

Do it! Without one, you will fight algae and/ cyano.

One thing I've learned in this hobby is that any chance you have to eliminate future problems , do it. If you end up having water problems in the future, you've already eliminated one variable.

I think OP is set on getting an RO/DI already, just confused on the chloramine block issue.
Some people do argue that they don't need it or even a filter, and some of those people may be correct depending on TDS where they live.
Here in SD we have a TDS about 400-500ppm, pretty darn high, and we do have chloramines in our water.
Could you get by w/ out a chloramine block?
Kinda, but my understanding is that you will burn through cartridges at a very fast rate, so best to spend the few extra bucks for the right gear.
If you want a more detailed explanation you could contact the guys at filterguys.org
They are pretty friendly in explaining this better than I can, BRS rep may also help guide you if you truly want to understand the why's and how's.

Yes, the question is what RO filters to use; not whether to use an RO/DI unit or not (which I will be using).
