Just bought Christmas Wrasse and it dissapeared?

Hi guys! First post, and it just had to be a worrying one..

Ok, so I just picked up a Christmas Wrasse yesterday. As soon as I was done acclimating, put it in the tank, it darted straight for the flooring, and disappeared.. It hasn't come out since.. How long before I should start worrying? She's a huge one, looked healthy at the LFS, but just ain't seen it since.. I know They burrow.. but for how long at a time?

I wouldn't worry too much. They bury themselves when scared and to sleep. I've had the hiding vary from a few days to a week. Try looking at the tank before photo period and after as well.

Yup, agreed - I wouldn't start worrying unless you don't see it for another week or even two.

He's in your sand bed. Don't be surprised if you don't see him for a week or more.

Got a xmas wrasse (Halichoeres ornatissimus), and after a day not being linked by my BOSS melanaurus, Xmas took to the sand for over a month. Aside from those, I also have many other wrasse in my 200 gal reef inc. Red headed ornate leopard, potters wrasse, yellow tail tamarin, blue striped, juvi red Coris (already showing some mature color changes), green coris, radiant wrasse, equisite fairy wrasse, purple velvet fairy, and a male juvi dusky diamond that's been in hiding approx. 3 weeks.

Anyway, over a month later i woke Up to an almost Completly healthy Xmas wrasse chomping away on krill and no longer being bothered by melanaurus or potters. i attribute this case of survival and quick recovery to the large amt of pods in my fuge, LR and sandbed, probably enough pods to sustain live for long peroids of time. .this basically restored hope that my dusky may also reappear and I've leaned not to assume the worse unless all ur sand sifting stars and nessarius are gzanged up in one area, then u may be SOL. But I hope that helps, wrasse can go into hiding for longer periods of time than people think, esp if u know u have large ants of pods. Good luck if he hasn't comeout already, but don't love hope as fish are capabled of some crazy stunts!
