Isn't Tyler an electrician?
I'd be willing to do the install of the new parts. If you need any help or just would like me to take care of it, just let me know.

It must have been at least 5 years ago that I installed a durable Goodyear rubber reinforced hose and valve down there. Beat the heck out of the cheesy green garden hose. I'm happy to see so many step up and contribute. With budget cuts on the University and government entities (Scripps has to be in there as well) I doubt that replacing the hose down there would be much of a priority for the maintenance folks.

Can anyone verify what we need and in what size? I can go to Marshalls and pick it up tomorrow.

120 gallon. I throw money at it, and it grows colorful sticks.
I'll pitch in, since I use scripps on my FOWLR.
somebody tightened up the conection last night because this morning it was not spraying like yesterday..still a steady leak ...the valve is fine needs new male to male fitting and a new hose black heavy duty rubber

Nah, wasn't me, they put that valve on when they did the new drain setup. I have replaced parts of it in the past though, including a new washer on the hose a couple months ago.
Was there Saturday, and had to tighten the hose. It appears to need a 3/4" pipe to 3/4" hose fitting on the output of the valve and a new hose.
My question is should we replace with typical (commercial hose) or some black braided herco tube with ball valve

If you put a valve on the end of the hose, you will most definitely need a commercial grade one...
If everyone is ok with it and once we get all the parts identified I propose that all who are interested in helping meet at the scripps pier on Sunday at 10 am , replace the parts, pat each other on the back and then run up the hill to the aquarium and drop off the donation.
