      Lifereef Too Loud Please Help

Anyone find a solution to the lifereef overflow box gurgling its driving my wife and I crazy!

I tried building this thing today. http://home.everestkc.net/jrobertson...struction.html

but its slowed the flow down raised the water lever to uncomfortable heights.

Any other suggestions. I love this thing but i dont know what else to do.

I have one and it can be noisy depending on how you set it. You could try putting a small sponge in the external overflow to stop the splashing/gurgling noise (what I did). Really just adjust the flow and mess with it until it becomes quiet enough. Also maybe try some airline tubing in the hose

If you built it according to the website the "bell" is upside down. Try turning it around so the opening is facing the bottom. I use these in my tank and they work awesome.

thanks for the tip jason. i am going to flip the bell around today to see if that works better.

also i need to find a coupling for a 1" thin pipe with the 1" thick pipe. The lifereef comes with that thin pvc.

also should i run 1/4 airline or the 1/8 airline.

I've got the standard size airline, I think it's 1/4 od.

When you flip the bell over it kind of creates a vacuum in the bell once all the air is sucked out in the first couple seconds. This makes it silent and also should help with increasing flow.

flipped the bell over. Much quieter but the flow is still not there. Im going to try and punch more holes in the pipe. that might do it.

also i figured out how to attach it to the lifereef i just needed a reducer.

got home late from work tomorrow i will give it a final go.

Yeah, make sure you have enough holes and that they are big enough. I left very little space between mine and control flow by moving the bell up and down.

thanks for all the advice. I think im going to give it one more chance if i cant get it. Ill call in the big guns like Poakley.

The few moments of quiet has been bliss and then the tank begins to slowly fill up. LOL.

Update added two more rows of holes much quieter. Still an occasional burp but I think I'm close. Flow is good.

Awesome, now to tune it by changing the positions of the airline tubing and the bell.

Did you see my DIY thread when I set mine up?
